In 4/2010, Insitu will hand over second-generation NightEagle upgrade kits for integration aboard its ScanEagle UAVs deployed by US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in Iraq and Afghanistan; the delivery is part of a $250 mil contract issued by USSOCOM in 5/2009. The kits can be installed in the field to provide NightEagle operators with a new zoom capability and a more flexible turret. The kit allows the UAV's IR cameras to detect not only long-wave IR energy that passes through smoke, but also mid-wave energy that penetrates airborne moisture. The Canadian military was the launch customer for the first-generation kits.
