Under Project SEA 1442 Maritime Communications Modernisation, Joint
Project 2043 HF Modernisation and Joint Project 2008 Military
Satellite Capability, the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has been able
to fit all of its Adelaide and Anzac class frigates with a broadband
SATCOM capability and constant access to the US Wideband Gapfiller
Satellite (WGS) constellation. As a result, these platforms receive
data at a minimum rate of two Mbps. The Maritime Tactical Wide Area
Network put into place under SEA 1442 Phase 3 allows the components
of a maritime task group without access to SATCOM to network using
UHF LoS and HF Internet Protocol equipment.
