Fast Attack Craft (FAC) and Their Roles

Elefsis Industrial Enterprises is building seven Roussen class FACs, based on the Super Vita from Vosper Thornycroft (now BAE Systems Surface Fleet), for the Hellenic Navy; the first three were commissioned between 2005 and 2007. The FAC with the most sophisticated sensor and weapons suite available, the Type Sa'ar 4.5 built by Israel Shipyards, is in service with the Israeli Navy, which operates a fleet of eight. The boats are fitted with the Harpoon and Gabriel SSMs, the Barak SAM, the Oto Melara 76mm Compact DP gun, the Raytheon Phalanx CIWS and the Oerlikon 20mm AA gun.
