On Dec 29, 2009, the Pakistan Air Force unveiled the first of four
Saab 2000 Erieye AEW&C aircraft it has purchased from the Swedish
company. Under a contract penned in 10/2005, Islamabad procured
seven of the aircraft, but financial constraints compelled Pakistan
to diminish to order to four platforms. The aircraft, capable of
achieving an altitude of 9,000 m, is equipped with the Ericsson
Microwave System (sold to Saab in 9/2006) PS-890 radar, conferring a
maximum detection range of 450 km. The Saab 2000 faced competition
from the Bombardier Dash 8 Q200 and the Northrop Grumman E-2C
Hawkeye. (French)
