Electro-Optics and Radars: Competitors or Collaborators?

The Sea Star SAFIRE III from FLIR Systems is deployed by the US Navy and Royal Danish Navy. The sensor, with applications for surface combatants of corvette size or larger, is the only airborne gimballed EO system adapted for maritime missions. The company's other products include the SeaFLIR II, which is designed for integration aboard small patrol boats and Special Forces craft and can withstand full-water immersion at high speed. The SeaFLIR III, Talon-25X and Talon-XR are also ideally suited for installation aboard Special Forces small- to medium-sized patrol vessels.
